ABBA – Tivedshambo

Introduction

While ABBA fans cherish their iconic hits like “Dancing Queen” and “Mamma Mia,” a lesser-known gem exists: “Tivedshambo.” This song holds a unique place in ABBA’s history, marking their only reunion after their official disbandment in 1982.

The story unfolds in 1986. Stig Anderson, ABBA’s longtime manager and lyricist, was to be featured on the Swedish television program “Här är ditt liv” (This Is Your Life). To honor Stig’s contribution, ABBA decided to reunite for a special performance.

The chosen song? “Tivedshambo,” a composition that held deep meaning for Stig. It was his very first song, written in 1947 at the young age of 16. This heartfelt gesture highlighted the special bond between ABBA and Stig, who had nurtured their careers from the beginning.

The reunion was short-lived. Filmed in Benny Andersson’s attic studio on January 16, 1986, the performance showcased a relaxed and intimate setting. Frida Lyngstad, still grieving the recent loss of her close friend, had the lyrics held up for her by Görel Hanser, a touching detail that underlined the emotional weight of the occasion.

“Tivedshambo” remains unreleased, existing only in recordings from the TV program. Though brief, the reunion offered a glimpse of the enduring connection between ABBA members. While a full-fledged comeback never materialized, “Tivedshambo” stands as a testament to their enduring respect for Stig Anderson and a reminder of the magic they created together.

So, as you listen to “Tivedshambo,” remember its significance beyond the music. It’s a song steeped in history, a token of friendship, and a fleeting reunion of one of music’s most beloved pop groups.
